The battery might be flat. The remote will not open the car. The key will not open the car only the boot. What can l do?

Ca not you manually open the car door with the part of the key that slides out of the remote?

call a locksmith or someone who does lockouts. once you get in the car open the hood and jump start it. open the trunk and have the battery charged or replaced.

Depends on what year ur 5 series is. If it is '96 on (an E39) the battery is in the boot, on the drivers side under the boot mat. Simply jump start the car from there. On earlier 5 is they r under the rear seat or under the bonnet depending on model. Generally rapid jiggling of the door lock with the key will gently ease the lock open. Try the passenger side. If this still does not work, get a spare battery, supply an earth to the car chassis underneath (any bare metal earth, even directly to the engine) & crawl under the front to locate the starter. There is a large bolt on the starter (13mm head) supply a 12v supply to this. (the thick wire from this bolt goes directly to the battery, & u should be able to work the remote to open the car & access the battery direct.

Al H is spot on - additionally, if you have a twin electric tow bar, you can feed power back via the aux power connector.

Al h is very close, if you have a spare battery to jump off you can use the boot ( trunk ) light to connect to.

l had this same problem with my 1990 e34,

What l found was that if l put a bit of pressure in the way, & try to turn it would rotate the lock.

l think the problem comes from the corners being worn off the key.

Like l said try pushing on it or use a spare key as it may be less worn.

Tony came up with a good idea if u can not get the key to work, & that is use the boot / trunk light, but do not jump it using this due to the large currents involved l would recommend that u try to charge ur battery through this wiring, u will need to leave the boot lid open so the switch is closing the circuit to allow the charge to pass to the battery.

Failing all of the above l have a driver side door glass if u need to break in

l Know, Put the key in the lock turn the key and keep the key in the open position for about 20 sec. all the best
