can l put a 320i e36 engineinto a 525i e34? by the way the 320i came from a automatic tranny will the 525i is a manual. do l need majorthings to do that than just swapping the engine thanks.
320i is a six cylinder by the way. 318 is four.

Yes.

You will need (and l am probably missing some stuff) motor mounts, computer for a four cylinder 520i; flywheel assembly (and installation, balancing, etc), front springs, ...

Why would you want to put such a small engine in a bigger car? Even a Toyota Previa will outrun it!

Yes, very major things, like engine mounts, subframe, transmission mounts, driveshaft, shifter changes, computer changes, exhaust changes, wiring changes, etc. Also, lets think about this for a second:

the 320i has a 2.0L I-4 engine. The 525i has a 2.5L I-6 engine. So that would be a major downgrade. BMW Makes a 520, but l think it is a diesel. l am not sure if that 2.0L petrol engine will even have enough power to move a 5 series.

the 5 series is a heavy car and needs lots of torque to get it moving. the 320 motor wont do it. It would be like swapping some world war 2 propeller engines onto a jet airliner.

Actually, you can. The motor mounts wo not be that much different.

If you can, instead of the 525i engine, if your going to swap motor mounts, find a salvaged M3 engine :-) its also an inline 6
