There is a yellow warning light lit up on the dash it looks like a cog with an exclamation mark in the middle. car is a J reg any ideas?

The light your referring too is the warning light to tell you that the automatic gearbox has detected a fault and has switched to the emergency run program.

You need to take it to a dealer and get them to run a diagnostic check on it unfortunately.
