have oil around spark plung in my bmw

value cover gasket could be bad.

Rings on your pistons are starting to wear, allowing oil to pass by them to your spark plugs. Do you see blue smoke out of your exhaust?

That is not good. You can either throw away the spark plug and get a new one, or get a new bmw. It is kind of a toss up.

some times the gaskets are not completly secure and a little oil laeks out the top where the valve covers are and pools in the deep ends like where the sockets are. unless you are loseing alot of oil it is a normal thing. you might want to get it fixed if you want to keep your engin clean.

Well, It is probably leaking oil somewhere. Spark plugs do not usually like oil & they just do not usually have oil in or around them. You may just have a minor leak at the valve cover gasket & it is just running down to the plug area. Is it using oil? If it is burning in the engine u will see black smoke as it is running & soot in the tail pipe. Or does it smell like oil is burning under the hood? A typical oil leak u describe often runs down on the exhaust manifold & burns. It has a very distinct smell.

If it is a diesel, it may be an injector or a injector line leaking.

Take it in & have it checked for a leak.

When was the last time you replaced the? probaly need a new gasket though.

You have not told clearly,whether the oil is on the outter area or in the combustion area.

What is the mileage done.?

If combustion area,the possibility of piston rings worn out & white smoke emission will be there.
another possibility of you, topped up lub oil more then the permitted level.

If is on the outter area,the valve cover gaskets bad or not tight.
It could be that u or the person who filled the lub oil could have spilled out of filling area.

Please check out all possibilities.

Depends on engine. If it is M50/M60/M70 series of engines, the problem is likely failing valve gasket. If M20/M30 engines, you may have blow -by.

Not to worry , this is a cheap fix and you could do it yourself most likely, but it is common for the valvecover gasket to leak on Bmw is . good luck
