In the beginning, tires (tyres) were white. Someone then found out that by adding carbon to a tire increased its durability. Soooo Black tires it is.

/ Tires were all white in the early days (1900's), then all black rubber.

In the 40 is & early 50's, wide white walls were on the black tires.

By the mid 50's, the white wall got thin to either a thin single white stripe, or two thin white stripes.

During the late 60 is lettering was added, & either the tire was all black with white lettering, or all black with a white line.

In the early 70's, people started turning the tire ''inside-out'' & putting the white stuff on the inside next to the rotors, while the outside of the tire had the plain black side.

It never changed much since, & that is where we r today.

Cuz black tyres make white smoke..white tires would make black smoke..and treehuggas hate dat black smoke bwah!
