l have a BMW 740l that has be standing for 9 months. Is there a starting procedure once the battery has been re-charged?

Not that l am aware of. Really if the battery has been dead for that long and its sat with no power to it the computer is as reset as it will get.

l doubt that u would need to do anything special to start an engine that has sat for awhile. But take note of the reason why it sat for sometime, maybe it has a defective timing chain/belt, & trying to start it can do major damage.
And if it does not start, or runs bad, consider draining the gas in the tank & replacing it will fresh gas.
Other than the above, u would have to fall back on basic engine diagnostics regarding fuel, air, & spark if it still does not start or runs bad.
